During my teens I was a National swimming champion, and as such participated in selected international competitions. So I got to see the world sitting in first class instead of high school. The real lesson learned was how the body moved, how it held the water then rode the wave in a 3-D workout of fluid pressure points ever changing.
In my art I'm influenced by these forensic subtleties. My mind is visual rather than conceptual or categorical so over time, drawing in my, by now, 350+ sketch books, I try to make sense of it all.
Most of the books are pocket sized - I can do it anywhere, like a cop on the beat taking notes. With this in mind I went to the museums to learn and develop my style, rather than taking art courses on the latest fashion.
My paintings concentrate on portraits or relationships or erotic images where nothing is left to the imagination but her attitude. Many of the large paintings are 72" on the long side. Then, inspired by the horses of Muybridge and my drawings, I started to make appropriately quizzical animations and reels, and from the same sketches photoshopped my way through the galleries.
The climate posters have been edited and collaged from a number of public and private sources, while otherwise I`m an anonymous tourist wandering around downtown or sitting on the bus, taking my best shot.
My work has been exhibited in 30 solo and group shows both locally and nationally, and in 1988 I received a National Endowment for the Arts Grant for my paintings. As a commercial artist my Illustrations were published in the Washington Post and other local and national publications, and from 2007- 2020 I was an audio/visual technician for the Smithsonian NPG/SAAM and Renwick Gallery.
